International conference “human rights of victims first”

On July 26-27, 2010 The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) organized international conference on comprehensive protection and reintegration of victims of trafficking “human rights of victims first” in Yerevan, Armenia. The conference was opened by Ms. Gulnara Shahinyan - Expert Commission to Monitor Implementation of Council of Europe Convention on “Actions against Trafficking in Humans” UN Special Rapporteur on Slavery. Mari Sharashidze, representative of Women's Information Center, was the only Georgian attendee of the conference.

The UPR report “Women’s Rights in Georgia”

NGOs defending the women’s rights prepared joint report in the framework of the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Information given in the report is prepared according to the UN’s General Assembly’s resolution 60/251 of March 15, 2006and 5/1 resolution made by Human Rights Council on the 27th September, 2007. Girls for the Community Development

Girls for the Community Development

On July 13-14-15, there was held seminar in Borjomi, at the hotel “Likani Palace”. Seminar was organized by the Women’s Education Centre “Tori” with participation of 15 girls between the age from 18 to 25 and was held in frames of project “Girls for the Community Development”, which is carried out with support of the Women’s Fund in Georgia and aims at raising level of civil education of girls living in Borjomi, their activation in order to promote them in solving their own and community’s problems and to increase their involvement in social life.

Girls for the Community Development

Women Connecting for Peace

On the 13th and 14th of July, Gerda Larsson, Intern at Women’s Information Center, took part as a trainer in the project Women Connecting for Peace blog workshop. Women Connecting for Peace is a project created by Active Art in collaboration with UNIFEM, Taso Foundation and the Women’s Information Center and women from the conflict affected areas Samegrelo and Shida Qartli.

Field Visit in Borjomi Region

On July 15, 5pm, coordinator of Women’s Information Center, Elene Rusetskaia will meet women of different professions in Borjomi. Organizer of the meeting is Women’s Educational Center “Tori”. There will be discussed issues such as needs and problems of women in there region as well as will be planed future cooperation. The field visit is conducted in the framework of the project “Informational and methodological support for the development of capacities of grass-root women’s organizations in Georgia. Stage II: Capacity building and policy advocacy”. The project is being implemented by the Women’s Information Center with financial support of the Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation.
