Women’s empowerment, needs-based transformation, collective action, and support for conflict-affected and internally displaced communities - these are the core values underpinning the project “Women Act for Peace and Community Empowerment,” implemented the three organization’s coalition: Women’s Information Center, the IDP Women Association “Consent,” and the Charity Humanitarian Fund “Sukhumi; in partnership with UN Women and UK Government.
The project aims to empower conflict-affected and internally displaced women and youth to lead social change through the establishment and activities of self-help groups within their communities in IDP settlements or ABL villages.
On July 8, the first information meeting was held in the Tetritskaro municipality, in the Koda IDP settlement. The meeting brought together internally displaced women, with the community worker of Tetritskaro Municipality.

This was a first step toward building trust, raising awareness, and fostering collaboration. The discussion focused on the project’s objectives, the participants’ roles, and the specific opportunities available to the Koda IDP settlement and for the IDP women of the Tsintskaro community. Particular emphasis was placed on the idea that social change begins from within, through the engagement and joint action of community members.
The meeting also provided space for identifying local needs and gathering participants’ feedback – what concerns them, what they would like to change, and what they believe can be achieved through collective effort.
This is just the beginning! The “Women Act for Peace and Community Empowerment” project will gradually expand to other ABL municipalities.
