International conference “human rights of victims first”
On July 26-27, 2010 The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) organized international conference on comprehensive protection and reintegration of victims of trafficking “human rights of victims first” in Yerevan, Armenia. The conference was opened by Ms. Gulnara Shahinyan - Expert Commission to Monitor Implementation of Council of Europe Convention on “Actions against Trafficking in Humans” UN Special Rapporteur on Slavery. Mari Sharashidze, representative of Women's Information Center, was the only Georgian attendee of the conference. Details...  |

The UPR report “Women’s Rights in Georgia”
NGOs defending the women’s rights prepared joint report in the framework of the UN’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Information given in the report is prepared according to the UN’s General Assembly’s resolution 60/251 of March 15, 2006and 5/1 resolution made by Human Rights Council on the 27th September, 2007. Girls for the Community Development
On July 13-14-15, there was held seminar in Borjomi, at the hotel “Likani Palace”. Seminar was organized by the Women’s Education Centre “Tori” with participation of 15 girls between the age from 18 to 25 and was held in frames of project “Girls for the Community Development”, which is carried out with support of the Women’s Fund in Georgia and aims at raising level of civil education of girls living in Borjomi, their activation in order to promote them in solving their own and community’s problems and to increase their involvement in social life. Project seeks to promote networking and development of the grass-root women’s organizations and initiative groups in the long-termed perspective, as well as their involvement in the policy development and advocacy work by rendering them informational and capacity building services. |

| Youth for Peace and Security Financed by: European Youth Foundation Duration of the project: 03.03.2010-03.08.2010
The project aims to acquaint Georgian youth living in conflict zones with the youth from the different countries of Europe with the same experience and the same problems. The project will organize summer school to gather young activists and leaders and help them solve any problem they face now and will face in the future by conducting different activities.

| Women for Equality, Peace and Development in Georgia Financed by: The Government of Norway Duration of the project: 1.03.2010 – 31.03.2013.
Goal of the project is to support the efforts and strengthen the capacities of IDP and conflict-affected women’s groups, other partners from civil society and government to advance gender equality and women’s human rights in Georgia.
The project will be executed and implemented by the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Women’s Information Center (WIC) and the Taso Foundation will be key implementation partners. |
